Norwich - River Wensum City Trail (return trip)

Norwich has had the River Wensum running through it's heart ever since the city was founded over 1000 years ago.

This trail launches directly onto the River Wensum in the heart of Norwich where you can explore the history of this beautiful city from a unique perspective. Paddle upstream past industrial architecture left from when the city was a thriving port, or head downstream out of the city towards Whittlingham Country Park and Thorpe St Andrew.
It is your adventure, you decide.

Norwich Launch Site

Our Norwich launch site is at Foundry Bridge, directly opposite the Norwich Railway Station. The nearest postcode for your SatNav is NR1 1EE. There is plenty of parking in the Riverside Multi-story Car Par, just 100 metres away.

How long do you need?

2 Hour Hire - Perfect for exploring the City from a unique perspective. 2 hours will give you plenty of time to paddle upstream, past the Cathedral, Cow Tower and the remnants of the old City Walls into the old Port of Norwich, the heart of industrial activity from medieval times right through to the middle of the last century.

3 Hour Hire - Head downstream past the football ground and the old Colman's Mustard factory towards Whittingham and Thorpe Green. 3 hours will allow you enough time to get out of the City to enjoy the river, its wildlife and tranquillity. Please note : Although 3 hours should give you enough time to get to Thorpe Green and back those wishing to stop for food/refreshment should book a 4 hour trip. Penalties apply for late return!

4 Hour Hire - Perfect for those wishing to combine their paddle with food/refreshments at one of the riverside hostelries in Norwich or Thorpe Green.

6 Hour Hire - For those wishing to make a day of it. 6 hrs will give you plenty of time to explore Norwich by river before heading for the relative tranquillity downstream, out of the City.

Please note : Due to insurance restrictions we are unable to hire canoes, kayaks or paddleboards when water temperatures are below 10°C. 
If booking for the colder month please be aware that we may need to cancel your booking at short notice if water temperatures are deemed too low. 
In such circumstances we will either rearrange your hire of fully refund your booking.

How to book

1. Select a date from the calendar below. An availability list will appear.
2. From this list choose the tab for the hire duration your require.
A list of vacant launch times and the craft availability for each is displayed.
3. Click on your preferred launch time to get a booking form.
4. Add the craft you wish to hire to your basket. We will hold your launch slot and craft for 5 minutes to give you time to checkout.

IMPORTANT

Paddling Alone: Under the terms of our insurance and licencing we do not allow paddlers out on the water on their own. You must be accompanied by at least one other person.
Lone paddlers are very welcome to join our guided trails or sign up for our paddling lessons.

Adult Groups: Groups of 6 adults or more may need to provide a damage deposit as part of their booking. A member of our staff will contact you once a booking is made to confirm if this is the case. Alternatively, if you would like to know prior to making your booking whether you would be required to pay a damage deposit, please contact us at info@thecanoeman.com.

Minimum Age: At least one of your party must be 18 or over.
